Recruitment Startup JOBJACK Raises $2.5 Million to Battle Unemployment in South Africa

South African startup JOBJACK has just secured ZAR45 million (US$2.5 million) in pre-Series A funding to revolutionise entry-level job recruitment in the country.

Founded in 2018 by Christiaan van den Berg and Heine Bellingan, JOBJACK is a web-based platform that’s free for job seekers seeking entry-level positions. It helps job seekers create their CVs and apply for jobs easily through their mobile phones. Importantly, JOBJACK is currently data-free for MTN and Vodacom network users.

The platform has attracted nearly two million job seekers, and this number continues to grow by 2,000 new registrations each day. The recent funding of ZAR45 million (US$2.5 million) will support JOBJACK in expanding its operations and network across South Africa, all with the goal of connecting job seekers to life-changing job opportunities. The funding round was led by NEXT176 and included the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

According to Christiaan van den Berg, co-founder and co-CEO at JOBJACK, “These funds allow us to continue our momentum of onboarding employers and, not only streamlining their entry-level recruitment but to drive accessibility and affordability for the job seekers that need it most,”

Ona Meyer, programme manager for youth employment at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, expressed their commitment to supporting companies that innovate to provide job opportunities for South Africans without work, helping them support their families. This partnership will enable JOBJACK to further improve its recruitment process and make job seeking more accessible and affordable.
