IHS Cameroon has introduced the ‘Tower Kiosk by IHS Cameroon’ initiative to bring internet and digital services to rural areas in Cameroon’s northwest and southwest regions.
The kiosks have opened in three communities – Idenau, Santa, and Tombel – offering free internet access and supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs.
These kiosks will also act as digital hubs for eCommerce, education, healthcare, and government services. Additionally, they will collect health data from the community.
Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, attended the unveiling along with dignitaries from the regions where the initiative was launched.
By 2025, IHS aims to have ten kiosks in total, with five in each region. These 20-foot kiosks, powered by nearby towers, are equipped with computers, printers, and charging ports.
IHS collaborates with local and international NGOs to advance the initiative and manages the kiosks’ daily operations. CEO Olufemi Arosanyin expressed the initiative’s goal to engage at least 5,000 community members and improve their access to online resources.
The Prime Minister praised the initiative, stating it comes at a crucial time as efforts are made to resolve conflicts and restore peace in the regions.
This announcement follows IHS’s plan to open ICT centres at GBHS Sodiko in Bonaberi, Douala, in October 2023, aiming to enhance educational accessibility through mobile connectivity and digital literacy. As part of this, IHS constructed a new facility with computers, video conferencing, and internet connectivity.
IHS Towers Group manages shared communication infrastructure services across three regions and operates in 11 countries, overseeing a portfolio of over 30,000 towers.
