Former Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) top official, Temidayo Adekanye, is taking his former employer to court, claiming he got fired unfairly after speaking up about money issues.
He’s asking for one billion naira in damages, saying NIBSS broke their deal. He’s also asking for more money for other damages and legal fees.
Adekanye, 52, wants NIBSS to either give him all the money he would’ve made until he turned 60 or pay him a share of their profits and other benefits.
He says he got sacked for talking about financial problems like misuse of money and fraud at NIBSS, which handles banking transactions in Nigeria.
These accusations raise worries about how safe Nigeria’s financial system is.
NIBSS says they’re letting the legal process happen without getting involved.
Adekanye points fingers at some projects and says he asked for financial info but was refused. He brought up his concerns with the company’s audit and risk committee.
Then, he was told to quit or get fired, and when he wanted to negotiate, they said no and fired him anyway. They even got rid of his job position.
Adekanye thinks NIBSS did all this to shut him up and avoid dealing with his concerns
The court will start hearing the case on May 20th.
