Nigerian content creators can now make money from ads on Facebook and Instagram. Meta, the parent company of these platforms, announced this change on Thursday, June 27. Previously, Nigerian creators couldn’t earn ad revenue unless they managed their pages from an eligible country.
In 2023, creators in the US, Canada, Australia, and South Korea were the first to use “Ads on Reels,” a program where earnings depend on how many views their reels get.
Now, Nigerian creators can earn through Facebook in-stream ads, live ads, ads on reels, bonuses, and subscriptions. This follows a visit in March by Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, to Nigeria.
Meta stated in March, “Monetisation won’t be limited to just Instagram. Nigerian creators eligible to use our monetisation products will be able to also monetise on Facebook as well. We’re working diligently to make these monetisation features available for Nigerian creators in June and our team is dedicated to a swift rollout.”
