On December 11, the Central Bank of Lesotho faced a system outage caused by a cyber hack. This led to a temporary halt in inter-bank transactions across the country.
The Central Bank of Lesotho, along with the Bankers Association of Lesotho, is diligently working to fix the issue, and they’ll inform the public when the system is up and running again.
After five days, the Central Bank of Lesotho confirmed that inter-bank transfers have resumed. However, customers should expect some delays since payments are currently being processed manually.
It remains uncertain whether any funds were lost in the hack, and both the Central Bank of Lesotho and the Bankers Association are actively seeking a permanent solution to the incident.
Lesotho, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, heavily relies on its neighbour, South Africa. Interestingly, South Africa is recognized as the cybercrime hub of Africa by INTERPOL.
