SafeBoda Makes a Comeback on Kenyan Roads

Ugandan ride-hailing company, SafeBoda, is making a comeback in Kenya, starting with Nairobi, on February 4, 2024, as indicated on its website countdown.

The company had previously left Nairobi three years ago, citing challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and stiff competition from other established startups. SafeBoda has not given specific reasons for its return.

Despite the upcoming relaunch, it’s unclear if SafeBoda has renewed its licence with Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Authority.

The company might face hurdles with new regulations and competition, especially as some of its former riders have joined rival services.

After leaving Kenya, SafeBoda temporarily halted operations in Nigeria in 2022 to focus on its primary market, Uganda.

In Uganda, the company introduced innovative services like electric bikes, trip insurance, and SafeCar, its car-hailing platform. It’s anticipated that SafeBoda might introduce similar offerings in Kenya.
