Bolt Nigeria Pushes for Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing Services in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory

Bolt Nigeria is urging the authorities in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to enforce rules against illegal ride-hailing operators.

The company’s Country Manager, Yahaya Mohammed, emphasised this during a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Yahaya highlighted Bolt’s recent approval to operate in Abuja under the Public Transport Management Scheme. He praised the FCT Minister’s acknowledgement of Bolt as a licensed ride-hailing service, emphasising the company’s commitment to following regulations and ensuring safety for both drivers and passengers.

Advocating for fair competition among all players, Yahaya called on authorities to take action against illegal operators. He urged the FCT Minister and the Transport Secretariat to enforce the law to create a level playing field.

Earlier, on February 5, the Federal Capital Territory Administration announced that only two companies, Bolt and Nairaxi, have been approved to operate in Abuja. Notably absent were Uber and Indrive, raising concerns about their status.

In response, an Uber spokesperson stated they had submitted all required documents to obtain a licence and are awaiting approval.

Indrive’s Business Development Representative, Timothy Oladimeji, mentioned they began the licensing process in 2023 and have obtained a pre-approval letter in December. They are actively working to secure their licence and ensure compliance with regulations.

The leading on-demand mobility company emphasised its focus on fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect.
