South African Startup, RecoMed, Gets Major Funding Boost from Japanese Pharmaceutical Company Eisai

RecoMed, a digital healthcare marketplace from South Africa, just got a big financial boost from Eisai, a pharmaceutical giant based in Japan. Although the exact amount of funding remains a secret, it’s described as a substantial sum.

RecoMed runs an online platform where patients can easily book appointments with healthcare providers. It’s a tech-driven system connecting patients, practitioners, and others involved in healthcare. Users can book appointments using their phone, tablet, or computer.

This startup has been growing fast. Over 3,000 healthcare providers are now on board, and their revenue shot up by 150% in 2023. With Eisai’s backing, RecoMed plans to expand even more.

The funding will help RecoMed become the first digital platform to focus on breast cancer care, a crucial step given the rise in breast cancer cases during the COVID-19 pandemic. This increase might be due to delays in screenings and care for other diseases.

Sheraan Amod, RecoMed’s founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the partnership with Eisai. He highlighted their shared vision of making healthcare more accessible through digital platforms

Eisai sees RecoMed as a key partner in their mission to simplify the patient journey using digital solutions. Shin Ujiie, Eisai’s vice president for corporate strategy, praised RecoMed’s innovative approach to digital health services.
