Attention, football fans and entertainment enthusiasts! Brace yourselves because the cost of catching your beloved football team on DStv or GOtv just took a hefty jump.
MultiChoice Nigeria has made it official: subscription prices are shooting up by at least 25%. Why? They say it’s due to the rising expenses of running their business, a tough call they had to make.
Starting May 1, 2024, Premium subscribers will see their bills surge from ₦27,500 ($19.77) to ₦37,400 ($27.10). And it’s not just them; the top-tier GOtv subscription will also climb from ₦12,500 to ₦15,700.
But wait, there’s more to this story. This isn’t the first time MultiChoice has upped their prices lately. Just six months back, they bumped up the fees by at least 19%. Ouch!
Doing business in Nigeria isn’t a walk in the park these days. Everything from electricity to fuel prices is on the rise, not to mention the wobbly currency situation.
Even big players like MTN are feeling the pinch, losing a whopping $101 million to foreign exchange fluctuations this year. They’re even mulling over raising tariffs to offset their losses.
So, while some of us can stick to Netflix and a solid internet connection for our entertainment fix, spare a thought for those who rely on MultiChoice for their footie thrills. Tough times ahead, indeed.
