BuuPass Boosts African Intercity Booking with QuickBus Acquisition

BuuPass, a travel booking platform from Kenya, has acquired its competitors in Nigeria and South Africa, QuickBus, in a deal involving both cash and stock. This move, which was announced on TechCabal, helps BuuPass grow its user base to 650,000 active users every month.

Also, it opens up travel options to 16 African countries, such as Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Malawi, and Ghana. Now, users can easily book popular routes like Johannesburg to Cape Town directly through BuuPass, and more routes are expected to be added by the end of the second quarter.

Since its establishment in 2016 by Sonia Kabra and Wycliffe Omondi, BuuPass has become a significant player in bus ticketing, handling over 6 million bookings and generating more than $100 million in total sales.

Sonia Kabra, one of BuuPass’s founders, expressed excitement about expanding their presence across Africa. She highlighted their vision of creating a seamless transport network across the continent.

Additionally, the acquisition of QuickBus not only increases BuuPass’s user base and route options but also provides access to key distribution channels like Vodaphone’s VodaPay app in South Africa, making booking easier for users familiar with these platforms.
