Binance Urges Release of Detained Executive in Nigeria, Denies Decision-Making Role

In Nigeria, Binance, a big crypto exchange, is in trouble with the government. They want their guy, Tigran Gambaryan, released. He used to work for the US, but Binance says he’s not in charge now. They’re talking with Nigeria to sort things out.

Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, who works for Binance in Kenya, got caught up when they went to Nigeria to fix a problem with the Binance website. Anjarwalla left Nigeria secretly with a fake passport, according to the country’s security office.

Gambaryan and Anjarwalla are suing Nigeria’s government, saying their rights were violated. They want their passports back and an apology.

Binance says Gambaryan helped Nigerian cops fight fraud before. They say he trained them on how crypto exchanges work. But now, he’s been stuck in Nigeria for five weeks.

Nigeria also charged Binance with dodging taxes and wants Anjarwalla arrested worldwide.
