Naspers, Africa’s largest company with a market value of R717 billion ($39 billion), has named Fabricio Bloisi as its new CEO.

Bloisi will also lead Prosus, Naspers’ subsidiary, which owns companies like Udemy, Stack Overflow, Tencent, SimilarWeb, and SkillSoft. This appointment comes after the sudden resignation of former CEO Bob van Dijk in September 2023.

Bloisi will officially take on the role on July 1, replacing interim CEO Ervin Tu. Currently, Bloisi is the CEO of iFood, a Brazilian food delivery company under Naspers’ portfolio.

Naspers faces a challenge with a significant gap between its share price and its net asset value (NAV). Although Naspers’ shares are trading at R4,074 each, the NAV is R6,622 per share, largely due to its stake in Chinese tech giant Tencent through Prosus. To address this, the company has been buying back shares over the past two years to narrow this discount.

Board chair Koos Bekker praised Bloisi, saying, “Fabricio is an entrepreneur with a proven track record. His appointment as CEO places innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of [Naspers],”

Bloisi’s background includes roles as chairman and CEO of iFood since 2015, and president of Fundação 1Bi, a foundation promoting tech projects with social impact. He also founded and led Movile, a mobile services company that became a major shareholder in iFood with Prosus.

Bloisi holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Universidade Estadual de Campinas, an MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas, and executive certifications from Stanford and Harvard Business Schools.
