MAKA, Nigerian Social Commerce Platform, Secures $2.65M in Pre-Seed Funding Round

Nigerian startup MAKA, a social commerce platform focusing on fashion, has secured $2.65 million in pre-seed funding to expand its services.

Founded in 2021 by CEO Diana Owusu-Kyereko, MAKA provides an interactive platform for users to discover and buy fashion items through live try-on hauls, reviews, and user-generated content.

Inspired by the lack of diverse fashion options during the pandemic, Owusu-Kyereko created MAKA to address the unmet need for inclusive style recommendations. The platform has already garnered over 550,000 downloads.

The recent funding round was co-led by 4DX Ventures and Janngo, with support from Palm Drive Capital, angel investor Jonathan Shipman, and executives from Wolt.

Owusu-Kyereko emphasised MAKA’s mission to empower users to explore and purchase from verified and trusted brands, fostering meaningful connections between creators and customers.

Fatoumata Bâ, founder and executive chair of Janngo Capital, praised MAKA’s vision for leveraging technology to empower both consumers and creators in the intersection of e-commerce, creative, and cultural industries in Africa.

The funding aims to unlock the platform’s growth potential and impact on the continent, aligning with the projected growth of these sectors by 4x by 2050.
