MTN Group Pledges $215 Million Investment in Benin’s Infrastructure Following Successful 5G Trial

MTN Group is set to invest $215 million in the Republic of Benin’s infrastructure over the next three years. This includes building a new office for its subsidiary, MTN Benin.

The commitment was made during a visit to Cotonou by an MTN Group delegation led by President and CEO Ralph Mupita, who met with Benin’s President, Patrice Talon. The delegation included key figures like Amadou Raimi, MTN Benin Chairman, and other top executives.

Having already tested its 5G services in Benin, where it has around eight million subscribers, MTN sees great potential. The significant investment is aimed at exploring opportunities and benefiting both MTN and the host country.

CEO Mupita emphasised MTN’s mission to be a positive force in every market it operates, providing hope, dignity, and opportunity.

The telco plans to contribute to Benin’s development by partnering with the government and other stakeholders to empower the youth through education and skills development.

President Talon commended MTN’s commitment to Benin’s development and expressed openness to future collaborations with the telco. MTN has been in business in Benin for 25 years.

In 2023, MTN Group announced plans to invest $3.5 billion in Nigeria over the next five years, with a focus on deepening its investments in the country and mobilising additional funds.

This move comes after a successful 5G trial and aims to contribute to economic growth in both Benin and Nigeria.
