X (formerly Twitter) Resolves Dispute: Pays Former Ghanaian Employees After 14 Months

After a long dispute, X has finally settled issues with its former employees in Accra, Ghana.

When Elon Musk took charge of Twitter back in 2022, he downsized the workforce by letting go of over 6,000 employees worldwide.

Despite promising three months’ pay to those laid off, workers in Africa, particularly in Accra with less than 20 employees, alleged they never received any compensation.

Tensions escalated as these former employees threatened legal action against Twitter for not fulfilling their severance pay obligations. It’s been a tough 14 months since they were let go in November 2022, with no resolution in sight.

However, thanks to Seven Seven, the agency representing the affected workers, a settlement has been reached. The sacked employees will receive their redundancy payouts, and any foreign workers needing assistance to return home will have their expenses covered.

This resolution brings relief after months of stress and financial hardship for these individuals.

This development in Ghana follows a lawsuit filed in California by other former employees, claiming they are owed over $500 million in severance pay.
