MultiChoice has teamed up with Paramount Global Content Distribution to bring more entertainment to African audiences. This partnership means MultiChoice will offer Paramount+’s content to viewers in Africa, marking the brand’s first appearance on the continent.
Subscribers to MultiChoice will get access to a variety of top-notch content, including shows and movies from CBS, Paramount+ Originals, Showtime, and Paramount Pictures.
Nomsa Philiso, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice South Africa, expressed excitement about the deal, highlighting the company’s dedication to providing viewers with diverse entertainment options.
Paramount+, a digital streaming service launched in 2021, offers a mix of live sports, news, and entertainment. Although already available in various countries, including Australia, Canada, and the UK, South Africa is now a priority for its expansion.
Reports suggest that South Africans can expect to access Paramount+ later this year, offering them even more choices for streaming entertainment.
The move comes as Paramount Global aims to tap into the African market, joining the competition against streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Video.
This announcement follows MultiChoice’s recent unveiling of new prices and the launch date for its revamped streaming platform, Showmax, signaling the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance its offerings.
Furthermore, MultiChoice’s discussions with Canal+ about a potential acquisition have attracted regulatory attention, with concerns raised by the South African Takeover Regulation Panel about their public negotiations.
