Meta Expands Monetization Opportunities for Nigerian Creators in Africa Initiative

Meta Platforms is making a big move in Nigeria to help content creators earn money from ads and more. Nick Clegg, the company’s President of Global Affairs, says they’re aiming to have these options ready before June 2024.

This initiative follows a successful program called “Ads on Reels” launched in 2023 in the USA, Australia, Canada, and South Korea. It pays creators based on how many people watch their reels, giving them a chance to focus on what their audience loves.

Recently, Clegg met with Nigeria’s top creators during his visit to Africa. He highlighted Nigeria’s global influence and announced upcoming features like in-stream ads and tools like Instagram stars and gifts.

Clegg also talked about Meta’s subsea cables reaching Lagos and Uyo in February 2024. This is crucial for better internet connectivity, especially after recent disruptions in Africa.

However, challenges like underutilised broadband capacity remain. Clegg discussed this with Funke Opeke, CEO of MainOne, and government officials in Abuja are working on solutions to improve internal connectivity over time.
