The Lagos State Government has launched a Cybersecurity Operations Centre (CSOC) to enhance digital safety and protect its infrastructure from cyber threats. Olatunbosun Alake, the Commissioner for Science, Innovation and Technology, announced this at a press briefing on May 20, 2024, in Alausa, Lagos.
The CSOC will monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats in real-time, forming a crucial part of the state’s strategy to improve security and governance. This project is in collaboration with top cybersecurity companies and international organisations to ensure the government has access to the latest technologies and expertise.
Commissioner Alake emphasised that these partnerships are vital for boosting the state’s ability to defend against cyber threats. He also highlighted the goals of the data protection compliance project, which include safeguarding Lagosians’ data privacy and ensuring secure transactions involving personal and business data.
In a related development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a 6,000 km Metro-Fibre Duct Project in December 2023 to drive digital transformation. Commissioner Alake updated that 2,700 km of fibre ducts have been completed in Phase I, with the remaining 3,300 km to be completed in Phase II.
This project aims to create a 24-hour economy, allowing businesses to operate safely, create jobs, and boost the state’s GDP.
